IDD Therapy For Back Pain

Intervertebral Differential Dynamics (IDD) Therapy can be used to treat a wide range of conditions that may lead to Neck or Lower Back Pain or conditions that occur as a result of damage or irritation to structures within the neck or lower back. Even though the source of the pain maybe within the neck or lower back there may be other symptoms into the arms or legs.

  1. Bulging/Slipped/Prolapsed/Herniated discs
  2. Facet Sprain/Strain
  3. Sciatica and Irritated/Inflamed nerve roots
  4. Referred joint pain
  5. Radicular/radiating nerve root pain

These commonly occurring conditions may come on slowly with little warning or suddenly as a result of minor or major trauma.

IDD Therapy can also help to stretch various muscles within the body such as:

  1. Lumbar muscles e.g. Quadratus Lumborum, Erector Spinae
  2. Pelvic muscles e.g. Piriformis, Gluteus Medius, Gluteus Maximus

The Purpose of IDD

IDD uses gentle, computer controlled pulling forces to distract a specific level within the spine. This helps relieve pressure at that level and can help to loosen the surrounding muscles.

IDD Therapy can help in many ways and can:

  1. Relax individual muscles or muscle groups
  2. Disperse Trigger Points within the affected muscle
  3. Increase the blood supply to the area

The Treatment Itself:

IDD Therapy involves putting one harness on the torso and one on the pelvic area (lower back and leg conditions).

The treatment at best is uncomfortable, after all it is a physical treatment. However, it should not be unneccesarily painful. If the patient experiences too much discomfort, then the machine can be adjusted to the patient’s tolerance and altered each visit as necessary.

Most patients are pleased with the rapid results and glad they chose IDD Therapy.

Combined Therapy

IDD Therapy may be used in conjunction with other modalities. In particular Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) may be helpful to decrease muscle spasm and local inflammation. LLLT is a passive form of treatment whereby the patient sits or lies down and infra-red light is shone into the tissues. This treatment is painless and produces great results.

These commonly occurring conditions may come on slowly with little warning or suddenly as a result of minor or major trauma.
